Qidi X-One filament spool spacer
thingiverse
I love my Qidi X-One printer, but I ran into a problem when using non-Qidi filaments. The spools from two makers are 70 mm wide, while the one that came with the printer from Qidi is 64 mm. For the Qidi direction, you need to feed the filament in a specific way, and the issue arises when you tighten the spool holder screw. This causes the flange to bind 70 mm spools, preventing them from turning. If you leave the spool fastening screw loose, it can self-tighten and bind up anyway, leading to drama, noise, and broken filament as the printer prints. I know this all too well. Some aftermarket spools have an indent that allows free movement with the screw fastened if they could be flipped to feed the other way, but this isn't an option due to the extruder feed tube location. Others have no indent, and their entire diameter is 70 mm. I made a spacer that extends the length of the spool holder by about 5 mm, which is enough to use standard 70 mm filament spools in the required orientation while tightening the holder screw. The added 5 mm doesn't cause any issues when running 64 mm Qidi filament spools.
