CHANGELOG V.1.2 - First published V1.3 - Tested for 50 hours of printing with good results - Improved clearance of the ribbon cable - Slightly reduced length of the cable guard - Added a little pillar at the radial fan to provide contact for the endstop switch - Added a version for 40mm fans (not yet tested by me) 1.3.1 - Increased material strength upper side 1.3.2 - Minor improvements (positioning of attachment screw etc.) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I was frustrated with the original extruder cooling on my X-Max. It was extremely loud due to the small 30mm fan and the cooling effect was also not optimal, so I decided to overhaul the whole thing. This cover will accommodate a 50mm fan of your choice, which provides better cooling of both the hotend and the extruder motor at a lower noise level. ///Known issues: - Clearance of the fan is pretty low. Make sure your cables aren't interfering with the fan blades. - It seems like Qidi has delivered some different versions of the carrier plate with varying dimensions. This object should fit pretty well on the newest versions, but maybe not on older ones. ///Materials needed - 50/50/10mm or 40/40/10mm fan (12v will do, even 24v are supplied) (I used a Noiseblocker XS-1 BlackSilentFan) - 2 short M4 screws - JST-XH connectors and crimping tools ///Instructions - Print upside down. A resolution of 2.0 will do, but a higher resolution will look better. At 2.0 the print should take about 5-6 hours of time. I suggest printing in ABS or something resistant to high temps. - Crimp a female JST-XH connector to the fan - Mount the Fan - Remove the original cover from the printer - Remove the original 30mm fan. Do not lose the plastic spacers. - Fix the PCB again using the short M4's - Plug the new fan in and mount the cover just as the old one. Make sure the fan is blowing into the cover, not sucking.
