QIDI Side Window Clamp
thingiverse
This is for QIDI 3D printers. The side windows on the QIDI are removable but held in place with M4 screws and nuts. I frequently need to remove these windows and wanted a no-tools-needed solution. This approach provides four small magnetically retained pieces, each capturing one corner of the window. Print Settings Printer: QIDI Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.2 Infill: 30% Notes: Printed with PLA. I used 6 bottom and 6 top layers, and 4 outside layers. Printed with flat surface with magnet holes in it down. No supports are needed inside the magnet holes. Post-Printing Instructions Press the 6mm round magnets into their holes in each bracket. There are three sets of magnet holes per bracket, and each hole can accept two 1.5mm magnets. Fill according to your retention preference. Note: I got the magnets at http://www.ebay.com/itm/251471137493 for 100pcs/$7 w/ free shipping, or http://www.ebay.com/itm/271522371681 for 200pcs/$5.51 w/ free shipping. After the magnets are in place a little glue can help them stay there. I've had fun using “Bondic”. It's a high viscosity, UV activated instant catalytic cure cyanoacrylate. A few drops from the oiler like pen the glue comes in, then flip the pen around and zap it with the UV LED light, wait 10 seconds and you're good to go. Plus it's pretty thick so you can easily fill gaps/build up layers of this stuff as needed. Not the cheapest but pretty cool for glue. Here is a link http://www.ebay.com/itm/301662153693 One note on Bondic, if the UV light doesn't get to it, it won't cure it. So work in multiple exposed overlaid layers. Lastly, gently thread the M4 screw that had been used to bolt the window into place through the 4mm hole in the clamp. Use care not to over tighten as it will easily strip. This screw will act as a locating pin and keep the clamp in place. How I Designed This Pro/Con Pro: Easy to remove window, just pop off the corner clamps and window is free. No modifications to QIDI chassis are necessary. Re-use original M4 mounting screws. Con: Needs 6mm dia x 1.5mm or 3mm neodymium magnets. I do not have a large sample size but the thickness of the plexi that QIDI uses to make its windows varies from ~2.0mm to ~2.5mm. If the plexi is too loose in the holder a few pieces of tape placed in the cavity where the window sits will likely correct the issue.
