One proposed modification for the Panzer IV involved mounting an 88mm L/56 gun, similar to that used on the Tiger I, with a fixed rear-mounted superstructure. Unfortunately, this idea was scrapped due to concerns over the tank's suspension being overwhelmed by the added weight and firepower.
