The original pythagorean cup is attributed to Pythagoras and lets the cup fill up to a point. If the cup is filled more than the maximum, then the whole cup empties. It was invented to moderate the amount of wine drunk people was going to drink. The fact is that the one designed in the past was not so aesthetic because the channel for the liquid was in the middle of the cup.
