Pyrite
sketchfab
Pyrite is a stunning brass-yellow mineral that shines brightly with an intense metallic luster. Its chemical makeup consists of iron sulfide, making it the most widely encountered sulfide mineral. Pyrite forms at both high and low temperatures and can be found in small quantities across all types of rocks worldwide - igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary. Many geologists consider pyrite to be an omnipresent mineral due to its incredible prevalence. The name "pyrite" comes from the Greek word for fire, "pyr", because striking it against metal or another hard object can create sparks necessary for starting a fire. Pyrite has earned itself a famous nickname - "Fool's Gold". Its gold-like color, shiny metallic appearance, and high specific gravity often lead inexperienced prospectors to mistake it for the real thing. However, pyrite is frequently linked with gold, as the two minerals often form together. In some deposits, pyrite contains enough embedded gold to justify mining efforts. https://www.mindat.org/min-3314.html https://geology.com/minerals/pyrite.shtml
