Human: July 2015 Low-Polygon Model Contest Entry - A Geometric Fugue Celebrating the Pyramid Shape This contest entry is a geometric fugue that celebrates the pyramid shape and also serves as a set of stackable storage trays for organizing small parts, jewelry, and other stray items. The model includes five stackable, reusable pieces, which can be printed in transparent filament using the supplied instructions to produce a jaw-dropping piece of functional art. You'll be proud to say that it was 3D printed because it couldn't have been done any other way and looks so good. This subject is an excellent one for conversation, reflection, study, and meditation. Statistics: Total Vertices: 240 Triangles: 448 Edges: 672 Faces with Quads: 314 Edges: 538 The minimum wall thickness is 1mm, with a 0.6mm clearance between moving parts. The base is 10cm square and covers an area of 100 square cm. The pyramid stands at 10cm in height. There are 100 small pyramids decorating the outside surface, 25 on each side. These decorations aren't found within the geometry; they're caused solely by the infill pattern and tool path. Print Instructions: This includes five files for printing. For best results, print each file separately in order with the following settings: 0.1mm layer, no support. Use a small brim on the first piece only (the file ending in _5). One outline/perimeter shell is necessary to achieve the transparent look. Four top/bottom solid layers are required to include the floor pattern and concentric grain. Interior fill pattern: 3%, rectilinear, infill angle offsets at 45% and -45% (S3D defaults) are necessary for the small pyramid pattern on the inside. Interior infill width should be set to 105% for proper infill walls. Exterior fill pattern: concentric, is necessary for an attractive grain pattern.
