Pygmalion in Putney, London
myminifactory
This sculpture forms part of a trail installation featuring nine large sculptures situated along the River Thames at Putney in South London. A picturesque 1.5 mile riverside promenade boasting parkland and piazzas, complete with cafes and restaurants, offers an enjoyable stroll for visitors. The trail was officially opened in September 2008 and was organized by the Putney Town Centre Partnership in collaboration with Wandsworth Council. This installation showcases a large collection of works by sculptor Alan Thornhill, whose extensive experience working with clay has evolved from pottery into sculpture. Thornhill's innovative methods enable him to eliminate the need for a sculptural armature, allowing for improvisation, while his portraits challenge traditional notions of normality through meticulous observation. This object is part of "Scan The World", a non-profit initiative introduced by MyMiniFactory aimed at creating a comprehensive digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks, and landmarks from around the world that can be accessed freely by the public. Scan The World is an open-source community effort, and if you have interesting items nearby that you'd like to contribute, simply email stw@myminifactory.com to learn how you can participate in this project.
