PWM Fan Controller and Switch Panel for 2020 with STEP files
thingiverse
I recently upgraded my blower fan on my delta (in my WT-LC electronics case https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3052975) with a more powerful unit, but it sounds like it's about to take off. To keep the fan in check, I needed a PWM controller for my 3-wire fan. This case offers two options: a fan controller with three switch punchouts and an alternative featuring one switch and one LCD voltmeter. Both use the same base, but the top and face plate parts will be unique. There's also a small compartment on top where you can store spare nozzles, bubble gum wrappers, or your "precious" (I won't judge). These are the components this design was intended to use: PWM controller: https://www.ebay.com/itm/PWM-DC-6V-12V-24V-28V-3A-80W-Motor-Speed-Control-Switch-Controller/163299565577 Round illuminated switches: https://www.ebay.com/itm/8PCS-LED-W1-Dot-Light-12V-Car-Auto-Boat-Round-Rocker-ON-OFF-TOGGLE-SPST-SWITCH/191941530345 If you choose the volt meter option, a small 2-wire voltmeter like one of these would work: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0761MG9NS There's also space to mount a 40mm fan in the base. I considered this an option, but I'm using it since I'm unsure how hot the PWM controller will get and it will direct airflow under my printer. This case was designed to complement another design (below) which I have mounted on my delta printer - this fan controller will sit alongside it on my printer. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3155127 The model I printed and posted the pics of was a couple of revisions back, but I've since made some improvements with the current version. The changes should improve cable management and fix issues with screw holes that were too small. Since the changes are minor, and I've printed a working version, I'm confident that the models posted here will also work. If you build one, please post a make or comment to let me know your thoughts on it (and if there are any improvements needed). Hardware required: 2x M3x35mm screws 4x M3x6mm screws 2x M3x20mm (or longer) screws for the door hinge 2x M3 washers for the door hinge 2x M3 4mm x 4.3mm brass inserts for the door hinge 2x M4 or M3 screws and T-nuts for mounting to the 2020 extrusion Several thin zip ties for cable management (optional) 4x M3x12mm screws (for mounting the 40mm fan) 4x M3 nuts (for mounting the 40mm fan) Screws specific to the LCD module (I used cap head screws for these): 2x M2x5mm screws 1x M2x8mm screw (used for the clip to hold the LCD wires) The models are not oriented for printing, so see the pic for how I set them up. I printed these in 0.2mm resolution and used supports everywhere. You'll likely need to rotate some parts and use Cura's "Lay Flat" feature/button on some of these. I posted a screencap from Cura which should give an idea on how I oriented the parts for printing. I found that tree supports worked really well on these parts. STEP files are provided for easy remixing. UPDATES: Jan 12, 2019: I discovered that the face plates, which are cosmetic, didn't fit the switches that arrived today. I updated the files to expand the holes for the switches just a bit and am printing them now. I also updated the "top" parts so that the switches can go in either way (the switches I received would have been mounted with the "O" indication for off positioned at the top, based on the old design). All the files are now updated here. Feb 7, 2019: I uploaded a new version of the faceplates though I don't recall there being any changes to them. I wanted to have them on the same version as the others. I tested the switches today and they fit (though the elephant foot needs to be removed otherwise it will be tough to get them in). I posted a pic of mine, with the switch installed, however I am currently not using it so can't show it lit up and cool looking. Moving this from work in progress.
