This design is meant specifically for filament spools made from 3/4" PVC. It's only been tested on Solidoodle, Octave, and SainSmart spools. To work properly with Taulman spools or others like them, you'd need to use a max of 1/2" PVC. Print your cradle upside down at a higher infill setting – I personally used 70% – as per this model. For the base, you can reference Thingiverse #253290. With 3/4" PVC, you can raise the spool holder to whatever height suits you. Then simply drop in your spool and let it sit snugly within the cradle's support.
