I'm super stoked to share this idea! We love doing puzzles and displaying them in a cool way by dry mounting them to hang on the wall. Ideally, we'd frame them, but let's face it, framing can get pretty pricey, which is crazy! So when my girlfriend asked if I could just 3D print a frame, I was like, "Sure thing!" Of course, the puzzle in question was a panoramic one that's over three feet wide. There's no way I'm printing something that big on my MK2 MMU. It was clear we needed to break down the frame into multiple pieces, but how many and how they'd fit together was the real challenge. That's when it hit me - the ultimate puzzle frame solution! Although I originally designed this for a specific panoramic puzzle (which we ended up giving away as a gift), I later wanted to create another one (a totally awesome Star Wars puzzle). So, I went back and parameterized everything so that the same design can be used for any size puzzle. As long as you have a glued and dry mounted puzzle, all you need to do is take its measurements and decide how thick or wide you want the frame itself to be. Based on those details, the model will recalculate and give you the number of pieces you'll need. You'll just need to export STL files for the horizontal sides, vertical sides, and corners, then print a bunch of each, but don't worry, the model will calculate the exact size for an even division of width and height. I hope that makes sense! I'm happy to answer any questions about this, and if you're up for the challenge, put together a killer puzzle and send me a photo with your measurements, preferences, and a promise to upload it once you've completed it. If you do all that, I might just be willing to customize this design on your behalf!
