Purussaurus brasiliensis is an extinct species of crocodilian that lived during the Late Miocene epoch, approximately 8 to 10 million years ago, in what is now Brazil. It is one of the largest crocodilians that ever lived, with estimated lengths of up to 12 meters (39 feet) and estimated weights of up to 8,400 kilograms (18,500 pounds). Purussaurus had a broad, flat head, massive jaws, and conical teeth that were adapted for crushing and gripping prey.
