Purple Worm - FDM Optimized
thingiverse
I'm crazy about the Purple Worm design by Schlossbauer, but I was really struggling with printing the head at an angle that would give me the level of detail I wanted without any problems cropping up. So, I decided to break part 3 into two separate pieces, which made it a whole lot easier to print. I split the face from the neck right where there's a natural seam in the design and then added a square peg and hole to make assembly after printing a piece of cake. It still needs glue to hold together, but I was able to easily print the separate pieces and get an amazing quality on the face! If you're going to print this thing, I highly recommend printing the face so it's pointing straight up with the peg flat on the bed. This ensures that the teeth come out without any issues at all. For the neck pieces, print them hole side down so the ledges and horns are pointing up - that way you'll need a lot less support material. The base can be printed lying flat.
