Shortly after purchasing my Pureness pet food container (50 lbs) from PetSmart, I encountered a problem with the latch that snaps the lid into place and seals the dog food inside - it broke. After waiting for some free time, I created a new latch that fits perfectly in the spot where the old one used to be. Feel free to refine the corners or make any other adjustments you like - personally, I'm happy with the result as it looks and feels better than the original. 3 Notes about this project: 1. To improve the functionality of my custom latch, I removed a significant amount of material from the backside of where the pins stick out using Fusion360. The original latch was slightly bent in that area, which caused it to close and open smoothly without any modifications. I found this approach more effective than bending the actual print itself like the original. 2. Compared to the original, my custom latch requires a bit more force to close and open. However, the end result is a sturdier lock and seal, making it worth the extra effort. With some minor adjustments, you can likely make it easier to use. 3. One of the pins on my custom latch is slightly longer than the other side. This longer pin should be inserted first before aligning the other side and sliding that in. This allows for easy installation without having to bend anything.
