Although Carstensz Pyramid is the lowest in elevation of the Seven Summits, it is one of the most difficult to climb. It stands surrounded by the dense jungle of New Guinea, inhabited by warring tribes, some of whose ancestors had a taste for human flesh. The combination of remoteness and recent political unrest, plus the extensive stretches of technical rock on any of the Seven Summits, makes this challenge as formidable as any of the Summits. You can watch a video tutorial online to make your own mini mountains at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzwybr65I9o. This is part of my series of collectible mountains. Each model in this series is rendered at 1:100000. The model represents an area of 10km x 10km, and the base sits at sea level, so different mountains can be accurately compared. Have you ever wondered how much bigger Everest is than Mt Shasta? Now you can hold both mountains in your hands to compare. We discussed making 3D models like this on the 3D Printing Today podcast, available on iTunes, Stitcher Radio or direct from the source at http://threedprintingtoday.libsyn.com/. You'll find complete instructions on how to make models from digital elevation data on my blog at http://www.the3dprintedfuture.com/shapespeare/?p=1.
