Pumo

The Pumo is a traditional artifact from southern Italy, specifically Apulia, where it can be spotted adorning the balconies of homes. A handmade ceramic treasure, the Pumo is born from an ancient manual tradition and carries a precious message: it represents a rose bud on the cusp of blooming, surrounded by three acanthus leaves that symbolize spring, rebirth, life, and renewal. In addition to serving as an amulet for good fortune, abundance, prosperity, fertility, and positive news, the Pumo is also a decorative piece that captivates with its rounded shape and colorful glazing. The Pumo adapts perfectly to celebrate any occasion you want to mark with a good start. I discovered that the term originates from the Latin word "pomum," meaning fruit, and is connected to the Roman goddess Pomona, who was the protector of fruits. In some Apulian dialects, the Pumo is referred to as the "Pumo dè Fiure" (flower bud), and it was also featured in many coats-of-arms of Apulian upper-class families. It's believed to ward off evil, which is why you can see the Pumos at the entrance of traditional homes or on the facades of mansions. You can learn more about the Pumo by searching "pumo di ceramica" online.
