Pulsatrix V1

Pulsatrix V1

The concept for the Pulsatrix stemmed from my own mouse, forgoing material under the palm rest section to allow for adjustment and setting the contour of the mouse at an angle for a better grip. Once these two factors were created, the body and casing of the mouse followed. The name Pulsatrix is the genus name of the spectacled owl. I chose this name for two reasons: 1) The broad white "spectacle" streaks frame the owl's eyes in the same way the lines and gaps frame each contact surface on the mouse.2) I really like owls. The design of the thumb grip and rest on the right side of the mouse lends itself to being gripped like a "claw" as opposed to a flat palm, though both grips would be comfortable due to the palm rest height adjustability. A soft textured rubber pad on the left side gives more traction for the ring finger or pinkie, further promoting a more comfortable claw grip. One theme of the mouse is the angular contours found on the left and right buttons as well as the central chassis and thumb rest. These angles provide grip to the side fingers as well as creating an arrowhead look, conveying sharpness and accuracy to the user. The central chassis of the body is a glossy plastic with interchangeable patterns per the user's request. The skirt, left and right click buttons, and palm rest are a lightly textured black matte plastic with soft rubber breakson either side where the finger rests are. The mouse wheel has the same soft rubber coating with the two DPI up and down adjustment buttons being glossy black. As a student, this model challenged my Fusion 360 and Keyshot capabilities greatly, and seeing all the beautiful submissions for this competition over the last few weeks has all but confirmed that I still have a great deal to learn. Thank you Stratasys and Keyshot for putting on this competition!
