Pulpit Lectern
myminifactory
This marble lectern would have been prominently displayed on the side of a church pulpit. On its front, a tetramorph is skillfully carved with three figures that are now heavily worn down by erosion. A tetramorph represents a symbolic combination of four distinct elements or disparate components unified into one single unit. Typically, four creatures are depicted in this arrangement (although only three are visible here), which symbolize the four evangelists: Matthew is associated with an angel, Saint Mark with a lion, Luke with an ox, and John with an eagle. This beautiful work of art was crafted by a skilled sculptor from Pisa.
