Simple machines surround us every day. This project zeroes in on one such machine, the humble pulley. It's a ubiquitous fixture in everything from elevators to robots, a remarkably straightforward way of amplifying the force applied to an object while minimizing the amount entering the system. Students participating in this project will witness force multiplication firsthand as they experiment with various weights and combinations of pulleys on their custom-built rigs.
