Assembly of Pulleys The pulley assembly gets built around a central axis that rotates freely. The main components include a wheel with a grooved rim and a rope wrapped tightly around it. A second wheel, also known as an idler pulley, supports the rope but does not turn it. The idler's function is to change the direction of the rope, keeping tension on both sides of the system. A bearing or axle holds these wheels in place, allowing smooth movement when turning the handle attached to the first pulley.
