In this case, it isn't injection molds; most UK electrical polymer parts are made from thermoset materials. Thermoplastic gets softer when heated, but thermoset only polymerizes once when two reagents are pressurized and heated in the mold. This makes the parts safer for electrical use since if they were to get softer as they heat up, they might deform and cause electrical contact. So, thermosets are generally used to contain electrical connections for safety reasons. Remember this when downloading electrical items: 3D printers use thermoplastics. Next up in my presentation is angles of draft. On 3D prints, you don't have to remove the part from a complex tool and cost expensive equipment. However, on compression molding tools, you can't remove parts with undercut ideally designed. Parts would generally not need to be removed if there's no undercut - but to get around this, you'd have draft added. 3D Printing allows us to make parts close to the ideal form in some cases, however other times support structure may be needed. Or design it so it self supports. The original Pull Switch Weights are made from thermoset polymer just for convenience. They don't need to be made from that specific type of material; these were designed to work like their thermoset cousins so when ordered and assembled everything fits well. They were created by 3D printing because these should fit instead of original pull switch cords in all electrical fixtures. Best regards, -EURING, Andy Southern aka BathRobotics
