Puerta La Latina
sketchfab
The door of La Latina is one of the plateresco examples in Madrid belonging to the Hospital of Our Lady of Conception. Founded in 1499 by Francisco Ramírez, husband of Beatriz Galindo, "the Latin", and completed in 1507. It was located outside the walled city, near the Moorish Door, and had a significant impact on the configuration of XVI Madrid. The beautiful entrance, a typical example of Mudejarism that affected the last Gothic architecture, features an arched door with pointed arches, large granite blocks, and richly decorated intrados with balls and cardinals. Above the arch, two coats of arms, one image of a monk, another of a savage, and in the center, under the canopy, a high-relief group depicting the Visitation. In 1904, the hospital was demolished, and the entrance passed to the city hall warehouses of Madrid for later recovery and reconstruction at the Madrid Architecture School in 1958.
