The Palace Gate of Palms, situated between two crenellated towers shaped like rings, is tied with decorative ropes typical of early 16th-century art and has walls plastered to resemble bricks. At the height of its balcony-shaped top, there are sculptural elements. The Gate of Palms appears very different from its two faces. Outside, a double arch stretches high. Over the center stone of the lower arch hangs a large crown belonging to Charles V and in the upper half circles stand statues of males and females identified by several historians as Philip II and fame along with other notable figures including Queen Joanna, representing symbols that stand for different themes such as victory. Each corner stands proudly decorated with lion-shaped shields symbolizing its origins possibly associated with those that once existed in the area now known today as a city center. This entrance point's very top holds a long ribbon made of stone containing letters from an old forgotten language etched there to remind visitors it was commissioned in 1551 during restoration under the authority of Prince Felipe, son of the emperor, and Emperor Charles V possibly as part of its reconstruction process to protect its historical integrity by remodeling it slightly for further stability. At a lower position underneath the top arch lies intricate carved details making its surface appear acorn-like from below and from an architectural viewpoint offers quite distinctive contrast adding extra beauty showcasing the true power in creating grand works and magnificent pieces giving way to admire nature's incredible craftsmanship bringing attention upon us so often forgotten with its ancient roots embedded deeply within these imposing walls now a historic landmark that takes center stage.
