Located on the western side of Toledo's cityscape, The Bridge of San Martin stands as a magnificent example of medieval engineering. Though the exact date of its construction is unclear, historical records mention it for the first time in 1165. Crafted from robust masonry materials, this architectural marvel stretches across two sides via five stunning arches. The centerpiece stands out for its remarkable height, towering an impressive 27 meters above ground level. Over time, the structure underwent significant modifications during the XIII century. A clever defensive feature was integrated at one end - a sophisticated door or tower constructed from a hexagonal foundation - designed with careful consideration to limit access by force. Further additions were made in the XVI century as another imposing tower was appended at the opposite end. This architectural enhancement seamlessly merged with Toledo's protective wall, fortifying its stance against potential threats.
