PublicLaboratory Mobile Spectrometer v4.0
thingiverse
Version 4.0 of Public Lab's smartphone spectrometer is now available, boasting several upgrades from previous models. This scientific tool attaches to Android or iOS phones, tablets, or macro-capable cameras and lets you collect spectra. Use it to identify elemental compositions in various items based on emitted light colors, or monitor home brewing progress. The latest version features thicker walls, a tripod mount, and an entrance slit accommodating clip-on accessories. These changes initially aimed for injection molding optimization but proved beneficial for 3D printing as well. Order one on Shapeways or try the papercraft version at Public Lab's store. Note that this model was optimized for injection molding, making it a challenging print. Assemble by printing three parts (base and two body pieces), attaching a film grating to the base with double-sided tape, and screwing or gluing the body pieces together. Calibrate, save, and share spectra using Spectral Workbench. For iDevices, use Opera browser. If you need a version without text or require support for extrusion printers, let us know. Ensure your printer is tuned well for bridging and overhangs before attempting this print. All parts have been verified through NetFabbing. Use the provided grating (1000 lines per mm) or film from CDs, DVDs, or Blu-Rays.
