PublicLaboratory Mobile Spectrometer v3.0

PublicLaboratory Mobile Spectrometer v3.0

thingiverse

Version 3.0 of PublicLaboratory.org's mobile spectrometer is now available. This scientific tool attaches to an Android, iOS phone, tablet or any camera with macro-mode capabilities and allows users to collect spectra for elemental composition analysis. Examples include light bulbs, olive oil, beer, etc. A new Version 4.0 will be released soon with a more refined design, available at http://publiclaboratory.org/notes/braddudenhoffer/2-11-2013/evolution-plots-smartphone-spectrometer-0. Assembly is easier than previous models and requires printing two parts (base and body with or without logo), attaching a film grating to the base, securing it to the body and mounting it on your device. Use SpectralWorkbench.org for calibration, saving and sharing spectra; an iOS app is in development. If you have an extrusion printer like a Mendel, support may be needed. Future versions will improve printing issues. All parts have been NetFabbed and verified. A 1000-line per mm linear grating from this source (tinyurl.com/9tjrz8r) or CD, DVD, or BluRay film works well as the prototype. The tool is licensed under CERN OHL v1.1 Public Lab contributors.
