Public Domain Involute Parameterized Gears
thingiverse
A public domain OpenSCAD script generates involute spur gears, helical gears, partial gears, and racks via the parametric module gear(). This script also features the module rack() for creating tooth-studded bars compatible with the gears. The provided SCAD file showcases a gear train example, which can be viewed and animated in OpenSCAD. Changing the number of teeth maintains proper rotation. In comparison to other Thingiverse gears, this script is GPL/LGPL-free but has missing features. Future improvements could lead to a comprehensive public domain gear script. To use the file, utilize gear() or rack() modules and call functions at the bottom for gear parameters. For gears to mesh correctly, ensure they have the same mm_per_tooth, pressure_angle, and their centers are separated by the sum of pitch radii. The pitch radius can be found using pitch_radius(), while outer_radius() determines a circle's radius encompassing the entire gear.
