This is an image of Ptolemy II Philadelphos, taken from a replica located at The Museo Archeologico Nazionale in Naples found in the atrium of the Villa of the Papyri in Herculaneum.\r\nPtolemy was ruler of Ptolemaic Egypt between 283 and 246 BC. During Ptolemy II's time as king, the opulence and literary flair of the Alexandrian court reached its peak. He supported the Museum and Library of Alexandria. He commissioned a commemorative monument, the Great Mendes Stela. He also led the Ptolemaic Kingdom against the aggressive Seleucid Empire in the first of several Syrian Wars that saw constant territorial shifts between the two powers in West Asia.
