Ptolemy I Soter I, also known as Ptolemy Lagides, was born circa 367 BC and died circa 283 BC. As a Macedonian general under Alexander the Great, he rose to power and became ruler of Egypt from 323-283 BC. In 305/4 BC, Ptolemy demanded the title of pharaoh. He is the founder of the Ptolemaic Kingdom and dynasty. Ptolemy I Soter I reigned in Egypt from 305 - 282 BC. His sculpted portrait can be identified by comparing it to the currencies that featured his face.
