PTFE X-axis carriage, on aluminium profile, Mmax,Prusa upgrade

thingiverse

This work-in-progress design utilizes an "open" ABS carriage for holding the extruder and PLA/PTFE profile mount underneath, possibly substitutable with a full PLA carriage if not affected by hotend heat. The Y-axis has been altered but requires further testing to achieve similar results as seen on the X axis. The carriage is designed for aluminum profile x axis, incorporating this Thingiverse model (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:171294) for PTFE rail and Simonius idler+motor holder (http://www.thingiverse.com/Simonius/designs). However, the carriage's print quality may not be perfect, so further testing is required to confirm its functionality. Videos of bare carriage, carriage with extruder, and printing can be viewed at these links: http://youtu.be/LfLTiiDKvbU, http://youtu.be/ERUOjpFenDY, and http://youtu.be/T046ZFsfEGw respectively. Note that the carriage may sag due to extruder weight and tolerance at mounting, causing ABS dust on the profile from friction. It is recommended to split the model and print the profile mounts out of PLA instead. If you decide to try this design, feel free to share your experience. An improved edition will be available in a week; otherwise, follow these instructions: print the carriage, cut PTFE tube to correct length, use an Allen key for tube alignment, screw in 4 x 3mm or 8 x 3mm bolts, assemble X-ends from Simonius profile, and attach carriage to aluminum profile and X-ends using this endstop holder (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:43036). Please wait for the updated version if you want a more refined design.
