thingiverse
This is the dog tags for Pt. Hudson from the movie Aliens. It was modeled off of a picture of the screen used tags. In the movie he is called Pfc, but his tags say Pt. There are 2 version available. One with the engraving on the back side like the original and one with the engraving on the top. The version with the text on the back side needs to be completely transparent to see the text. The version with the text on the front will be easier to make since it doesn't need to be completely transparent. Getting it to end up transparent will take some experimenting. Print with 1 perimeter and 100 infill. The temperature and extrusion rate might need to be increased so that plastic is overstuffing plastic and making the layers completely solid. Fill in the text with Brown Bess or olive drab paint. Start with course sandpaper and sand until there are no top or bottom layer lines. Progress with finer sandpaper until it is polished. Sand with each grit until all the previous scratches are removed. Finally dip it into some Pledge floor polish to fill in any minor imperfections. The Fusion 360 file is included. It can be used with a cnc router or laser to engrave plastic.
