PSP Go Backplate v3

The PSP Go uses the same battery connector as the Vita 1000. I found a few extended backs, but they all required taping the battery in place. On top of that, there was no way to access the M2-to-SD adapter from the outside.

I used Hipcat's model as my base, and I redrew nearly every bit of geometry.

First, I sized the internals to snugly hold a standard Vita 1000 battery in place. There's a “PSP” cutout that can be left blank, or you can print the “logofill” file to make the logo the color of your choice. To help ensure a flat print, each letter has some 1-layer tabs designed to be easily cut away with a craft knife.

Next, I had to figure out how to fit an M2-to-SD adapter so it could be accessed from the outside. Fortunately, removing the OEM battery freed up a bunch of space near the top; it was just barely wide enough to support the adapter. But I needed to find a way for the adapter to stay in place when inserted after the battery.

A tiny puzzle-piece insert did the trick. Note that the bottom is not flat! In order to accommodate the battery, it's a little wider near the puzzle-piece end. I recommend printing vertically per the attached gcode.

After that, I made some more improvements: reinforced the screw holes; improved the fit of some of the doors; added a slot for the wi-fi antenna; bolstered the area near the lanyard hole; added small “wings” because it strengthened the design and was also more comfortable to hold.

During assembly, I used kapton tape to hold the battery, the antenna, and the SD adapter in place. I then put a scrap foam block on top of the SD adapter, to make a snug fit and prevent the adapter from shifting. Remember to place the SD adapter with the pins visible to make sure the SD is easy to put in and take out.

Uses the original four back screws.

I've used this model for two different builds, and with M2-to-SD adapters from two different makers. Both felt solid and held together nicely.

Be careful not to overtighten the screws near the shoulder buttons - it can make the shoulders stick down.
