PS3 Eye Camera Lens Shim
thingiverse
To modify Sony PS3 Eye USB Cameras with alternative CCD lenses featuring M12 mounts, one can utilize simple 3D-printed shims that sit between the sensor assembly and lens. These shims help rectify focus range issues that may arise due to lens changes. To dismantle the PS3 Move Camera and separate the lens from its mount, refer to this Instructables page: http://www.instructables.com/id/The-EyeWriter/step6/Hack-the-PS3-Eye/. These shims fit between the black plastic lens mount and sensor PCB but may hinder the use of locator pins for lens positioning; hence, precision is crucial. The attached .scad file and .STL provide 3 shims with varying thicknesses - 1mm, 1.5mm, and 2mm. Start with a 1mm shim and only move to larger ones if focus range issues persist. Adjust lens position by screwing it in and out until full focus range is achieved. Be mindful that the 2mm shim may necessitate longer mounting screws, while the 1mm and 1.5mm shims should work with existing screws. To ensure proper shim placement on the lens mount, apply a dab of hot glue (or similar adhesive) before aligning it on the sensor PCB; refer to the provided photo for guidance.
