PS Vita

The PlayStation Portable (PSP) successor is widely expected to be called the PlayStation Vita. The name change from PSP2 to PlayStation Vita seems to suggest a greater emphasis on the "PlayStation" brand, which could mean that Sony has learned from their mistakes with the original PSP and is focusing more on delivering a gaming experience this time around. The PS Vita will likely have a 5-inch multi-touch screen, dual analog sticks, and a rear touchpad. The display resolution is expected to be 960 x 544 pixels at 16:9 ratio, which would give it a pixel density of about 220 pixels per inch (PPI). This is roughly the same as the iPhone 4's PPI. The Vita will also reportedly have two cameras, one on the front and another on the rear. The processor is rumored to be an NVIDIA Tegra chip, but some sources suggest that it could be a custom ARM Cortex-A9 or a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon. Sony has confirmed that the PS Vita will not require a memory card for games, which could be a major selling point for gamers who are tired of shelling out extra cash for storage. However, it's still unclear whether the device will support PlayStation Network (PSN) gaming without an internet connection. The PS Vita is expected to launch in 2011, although no official release date has been announced yet.
