Prótomo de toro
sketchfab
Material: Calcarenita with stucco fragments Dimensions: 48 cm long; 80 cm wide; 82 cm tall Origin: Carteia (San Roque, Cádiz) Timeline: Roman Augustan era (27 BC-14 AD) This architectural element, like many other Carteian architectural elements from the Augustan era, was carved out of calcarenite stone, colloquially known as "ostionera stone." Carved in two superimposed pieces, it depicts a protome of a bull sitting on its legs. The rough appearance of this type of stone made it necessary to finish with a careful stuccoing that is largely lost on the surface of the piece at hand. This type of ornament was not very common in Western Mediterranean; however, this image of a bull has become one of the most significant icons in Carteian Roman architecture today.
