Práctica 1

Starting in the world of 3D printing? Welcome!!! With these practices divided into three levels, we aim to get you gradually familiar with your 3D printer and be able to experiment a little bit with parameters and options. Practice 1: (Layer Height) File to print: Calibration Cube in PLA/ABS Print Settings: Layer height: This first practice focuses on understanding and experimenting with the layer height parameter. Layer height refers to how high each layer of your prints will be, which forms your printed objects. The layer height can be adjusted but is always limited by the diameter of the nozzle you're using. For example, we cannot create layers of 0.6mm with a 0.4mm nozzle as it acts like a funnel and won't let them pass! Typically, we find nozzles with 0.4mm diameters, giving quite some freedom since they can print figures theoretically up to 0.1mm high quality and objects up to 0.3mm high, which will not have so much detail. Explain that to yourself, you'll wonder what it's worth printing at 0.3mm height and sacrificing quality when you could achieve the same object quality with 0.1mm? The answer is simple: time. If you print layers of 0.1mm high, your printer will have to make more passes and stack more layers, resulting in a longer printing time for objects of the same size. You can then choose what layer height suits you best in each printing job depending on quality you desire and available time. We invite you to try three different heights: mark 0.10mm in the layer height box and start the calibration cube printing process. Repeat the process with 0.20mm and 0.30mm high, giving you three clear examples of what you can achieve with your printer. Bottom/Top thickness (mm): 0.8mm (we'll be treating this parameter further ahead in future practices) Filament density: 40% (we'll treat this parameter in more detail in the following exercises) Print speed (mm/s): 40 (speed at which pieces will be printed; we will treat it more thoroughly later) Extruder temperature: 190°C for PLA / 210°C for ABS Platform hotbed temperature: 60°C for PLA / 100°C for ABS (Apply a thin layer of lacquer or equivalent to the platform prior to printing. You can also use commercial product called Nely's).
