
Prusament Spool Collapsible Stool

It's a little late for the Prusament spool upcycling contest, but that doesn't mean we should stop doing it.I bring you a way of turning an empty Prusament spool into a sturdy collapsible stool that looks like an ordinary roll of filament when in its collapsed state.What you will need:an empty Prusament spool86 M3x4 screws (I know it's a lot of screws, but we want the stool to be sturdy, don't we?)6 washersall nine printed SegmentsPrinting:Print with at least three walls and 40% infill. In my tests with this settings, I've found each screw is capable of supporting more than 25 kg, so eight screws should be enough to hold the weight of a person.Segments 1 and 9 have built-in supports to hold the slots for locking the stool closed. Before printing, check in the gcode preview if those supports are being printed. In case they're not showing up in the preview, turn on the option "detect thin walls".After printing, remove the supports and you're ready for assembly!Assembly:Start with Segments 1 and 2. Align the slots on Segment 2 to the holes on Segment 1 and place a screw. This is the trickiest part of the whole process, as the outer ring is in the way.After this step, the rest of the assembly should go smoothly. Just put a segment, align the slots to the holes underneath and place a screw on the hole.Repeat the process until you reach the last segment. As you may have noticed, Segment 9 has two holes in opposites sides. Place a screw in each of this holes and align them to the part indicated by the arrow on the picture below. Now finish putting the screws as you were before. We're almost done!Now get your empty Prusament spool (you will need to remove the cardboard tube for the next step). Put one of the halves on the bottom of the assembled segments and align the holes like in the picture below. Place a washer and a screw in each of the six holes. Do the same thing for the top part. And we're done! Here's your Prusament Spool Collapsible Stool! Operation:Pull it open and twist to lock it in place. Video coming soon! Final thoughts:While I've found this design to be very sturdy, this is still 3D printed plastic. Don't step on it and be careful when sitting. Use at your own discretion.
