Prusa XL Enclosure
prusaprinters
We designed this Prusa XL enclosure to be low-cost and easy to build. The first version we made used leftover acrylic from Covid barriers and hardware we had in our workshop. The final version, pictured here, is refined with easily accessible parts and materials. The Prusa enclosure can assist in regulating the temperature within the print environment and prevent heat from escaping. A more precisely controlled environment surrounding the print bed enhances the temperature conditions for the printing process, resulting in finer prints. *Assembly instructions, STL files, and DXF files attached. To build the Prusa XL enclosure, you will need:A minimum of 2 rolls of filament (3 if you want 2 colors).Your preferred method for cutting acrylic (bandsaw, laser cutter, hand saw, etc.)A drill to create the holes in the acrylic. All the additional hardware, listed below in the bill of materials. Helpful tips:For the printed parts we recommend that the faces with the least amount of undercuts be placed flat on the build plate. To improve the removal of supports use support enforcers and allow a little bit of bridging between the main wall and the support (see image). This allows you to use a screwdriver or other thin tool to wedge out the support (otherwise they are difficult to remove)For the Acrylic parts, you can use a bandsaw to cut all of the profiles. We also used a cordless drill to create the holes for side mounting. The acrylic is fairly robust and does not seem to need special handling. If you want a low effort and precise set of acrylic pieces, you can get the parts laser cut using the DXF files (Send cut Send, a third-party cutting service, can cut 3mm acrylic pieces as large as 24 x 36") Our bill of materials for this project:T-slot fastener - $8/pack 4 - Qty 2 - Mcmaster https://www.mcmaster.com/5537T01/Magnet 1/2" Dia X 1/4" Thick - $2.90 ea - Qty 8 - Mcmaster https://www.mcmaster.com/5862K118/Screws 10-24X5/8" - $12.32/100 - Qty 1 - Mcmaster https://www.mcmaster.com/92224A184/Acrylic Sheet 24"X36"X3mm - $41/2 - Qty 2 - Amazon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BHQXNQD4?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1PLA (Your choice)
