Prusa Printer
grabcad
A custom-built Prusa Printer Model is created to help a friend upgrade her outdated Romscraj Durbie Prusa i2 printer, whose plastic parts have become irreparably broken over time. This fun little side project takes only a week to complete and combines several observed designs from various printers with some clever ideas. The goal is to replace more 3D printed load-bearing parts with readily available metal machine elements while keeping the overall cost in mind. A robust triangular frame is designed for optimal sturdiness during transportation, while also making it easier to move around the workshop. In contrast to previous models, this printer features an external power supply that has not been mounted on the frame itself due to various compatible types of 12v >15A power supplies available. Built with simplicity and maintenance in mind, the current design incorporates Bowden Extrusion with hassle-free access to the hotend. For those preferring a direct extrusion setup, numerous off-the-shelf options from reputable online retailers like Aliexpress are also viable. Upgrading further can include replacing the original metal X Gantry and Y Bed set with modern metal versions available on websites and stores that cater to such projects at extra cost. Those requiring access to STEP or Solidworks files related to this custom printer are welcome to inquire via message or comment. A member of the project team will strive to address any issues and rectify any errors within these 3D modeling formats. In line with other designs like the renowned Folger Tech RepRap 2020, as well as several excellent Prusa Printer Models sourced from platforms like Grabcad, significant contributions also drew inspiration from practical placement setups often used on modern printers, including notable references to designs observed on the iconic Prusa Mk2 model and further enhanced in recent iterations courtesy of reputable resources found on sites like Tech2C. This entire endeavor owes gratitude to innovative designs that paved the way through dedicated forums such as Grabcad and popular makerspaces represented by platform Thingiverse.
