This is a custom-fabricated replacement for the Original Prusa MK2 fan nozzle shroud. The stock fan nozzle failed to fit snugly and also directed an excessive amount of cooling airflow toward the heated nozzle, leading to a dangerous thermal runaway condition and consistently lower hot end temperatures during printing. By implementing three key modifications, I successfully resolved my thermal runaway issue and significantly improved my PETG printing performance: 1. I updated to the latest firmware version 3.1.0 (released in November 2017), which includes an advanced thermal calibration feature for the PID controller. I performed a calibration at 240 degrees Celsius (the ideal temperature range for my PETG filament) and another at 215 degrees Celsius (optimized for my PLA filament). This calibration helps maintain stable temperatures throughout the printing process. 2. I adjusted the filament settings within Prusa Slic3r version 1.37.1 to optimize cooling airflow for both materials. For PETG, I set a maximum fan speed of 30%, a minimum of 15%, and disabled fan operation during the first three layers. In contrast, for PLA, I specified a maximum fan speed of 80%, a minimum of 75%, and also disabled fan operation during the initial three layers. 3. I replaced the original fan nozzle with the custom version included here, which provides a more secure fit and allows for improved airflow distribution around the hot end.
