Prusa Multi Material spool holder
thingiverse
This design is for a modular spool holder waiting on the new Prusa i3 MK3 and their multi-material upgrade. The modular design allows you to only print out as many legs as you actually need, making it scalable to any number of rolls. For the Prusa's 4-material upgrade, you will require five legs. In practice, this can be scaled up or down to meet your specific needs. You'll also need a 30mm rod, which can be made from any material (wood works fine). Cut one to length according to how much space you need between the legs for the spools plus the width of each leg and 25mm caps at either end. The caps are designed to fit tightly and should be printed with a 1mm gap. The legs, on the other hand, print with a 2mm gap for the rod, ensuring they're not too tight or too loose. This holder can easily support rolls weighing up to one kilogram but is designed to handle a maximum of two-point-three kilograms of filament. To print the legs and caps, stand them upright and lay them down flat respectively. Supports will only be necessary for the rod holes, while rafts/brims are optional depending on your printer's settings. Set the infill to 25%. Your input is welcome - this design is still a work in progress and I won't have the chance to print it out until my MK3 and multi-material upgrade arrive.
