To minimize the friction caused by the retaining screws in the original buffer plates, I modified them to accept M10 passthrough connectors (https://smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B06VVBFVMV). By extending the plates and adding small stops, I prevented the PTFE tube from being forced back into place when a fat tip got stuck. I think the end stops might benefit from being slightly larger, but with 2.5mm ID PTFE tube, friction is significantly reduced and hasn't been an issue at all. The printer-side part printed easily, requiring only a little support at either end. However, the spool side design was more challenging, necessitating a raft of support underneath. Despite this, it came out perfectly on the first attempt.
