Prusa Mk3S Full Bear "Lowrider" Kit
myminifactory
This modification is specifically designed for the Prusa i3 MK3S with a full bear frame, unlocking an additional 14mm of Z height without requiring longer Z axis parts or extra investment. Testing on one machine as of August 1st, 2019 indicates no losses in print quality or hardware issues attributed to this design. The custom firmware I have provided installs and operates normally; however, please proceed at your own risk. Update July 31st, 2019: I'm currently printing a benchmark at maximum Z height. Once it's completed, I will install the LowRider mod on my MK3S and load up the custom firmware I just finished (https://drive.google.com/open?id=1CvUE573YDk-4MFuyfOQODluytIZ_yKcc). I will then print the same benchmark, optimized for the new build volume, tonight and upload pictures of the side-by-side tomorrow. Note that the custom firmware includes Linear Advance 1.5, so recalibration of Linear Advance 1.0 settings will be necessary. Update July 31st, 2019: Update: Modified Z-motor mounts have been uploaded to address X-axis collisions created by the lower bed mount. This modification is still untested, and I strongly advise using it with caution. I am currently printing these brackets and will test throughout the coming week. Update July 30th, 2019: NOTICE: It has been reported that this mod may result in multiple collisions, including a collision at the far left (home) position of the X-axis and another at the far right position of the X-axis. These collisions involve the fan duct on the left and the Pinda on the right. I am actively working on a solution that will include modification of the Z-motors mounting brackets. Until then, I do not recommend installing this mod. That being said, I've printed all the necessary mounting brackets and plan to begin testing within the week. This mod is untested, so please proceed with caution. All Y-rod, motor, and pulley mounts have been moved down by 14mm and modified to plane from the bottom of the front/rear extrusions rather than the top. Custom firmware will be available in the future. This design may be modified (if necessary) for the MK2.5S full bear in the near future. I've included an adjustable Y-idler pulley with a 3D printed 20T pulley utilizing two MR63ZZ L-630 bearings, as well as an M3x12 button-head screw. The standard pulley carriage from the original design (see remixes) should work for users who don't want to build the plastic 20T pulley and use the M3 screw.
