Prusa MK3 Simple Spool Holder Bearing
prusaprinters

I wanted to improve the plastic input to my extruder, because just with the original spool holder from prusa the spool wobbles a little bit due to the friction between spool and holder.

After a quick search found thousands of ideas, most of them using steel bearings of some kind.

Since the Prusa holder is quite sturdy i want to keep it, just need to improve it. Some time later after searching 3d printed bearings i used this concept “https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2543414” by Qube3Bot to create the upgrade part.

Few Steps

1- Detach all bearing parts carefully
2- Slide them into the spool holder part (should be a tight fit)
3- Done :)

Unnecessary steps

4- Rub a wax candle on the bearing to remove clanky plastic sound
5- To improve grip between spool and bearing just wrap an elastic band around it (pic 1)
6- If the bearing move side to side you can secure it with a zip tie or wrap another elastic band (pic 2)

Happy spool spinning :D
