Prusa MK3 R2 Split X Carriage Back
thingiverse
This is a custom X Carriage Back cover that bolts together seamlessly. Its primary purpose is to enable easy disassembly of the extruder without having to remove wires from the harness. When assembled, this part feels remarkably sturdy, almost identical to the one-piece back. Notes: The thinner square nuts supplied by Prusa are scarce for me, so I designed the slots around the thicker ones purchased from Amazon, which measure about 0.5mm more than Prusa's standard nuts. You can use Prusa square nuts if you prefer, but they will fit loosely; in contrast, the thicker nuts will provide a snug connection. To facilitate bolt connections, I extended the "wing" section of the back by 7mm, merely adding extra cover over the belt path without compromising functionality. Other necessary hardware includes (2) M3x8 or M3x10 cap screws and (2) square nuts. For optimal results, print this part with 20% infill and two perimeters as recommended by Prusa for R2 Parts. This design combines the original R2 back with a convenient split for easy disassembly. Edit: I corrected the hole depth to 12mm, replacing the M3x10 cap screw previously mentioned.
