Prusa MK3 Printer frame brace replace PSU super version
thingiverse
This is another frame brace for Prusa i3 MK3 printer. After power supply removal from the printer frame, we can put a frame brace in position to make the frame stronger and less wobbly.
Why I made this:
I'm inspired by design 1: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2859884 and Design 2 https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3512441, but not completely satisfied with both designs. So, I decided to create my own from scratch. Design 1 is for Prusa MK3 with silver PSU in top mount position, which uses more filament and print time for the frame brace. It's also less strong since it's mounted on top. Design 2 is for Prusa MK3 with black PSU in side mount position, using less filament and being stronger. However, I'm not happy about the bottom two holes, which are too long and large, making them seem less strong and potentially moving a bit, defeating the frame brace's purpose. So, I decided to make my own design. In this design, it's mounted on the side, with precisely sized M3 screw holes at the bottom and accurate model length and screw distance measurements.
2 MK3 or MK3S, Silver or Black PSU? Side mount or Top mount
This design is mounted on the side. The brace is attached to the PSU holder. PSU can be mounted on top or side, with screws in top or side position. I have a MK3 without S and don't own a black PSU, so my printer's PSU is top-mounted. However, I prefer the side mount design, so I changed it from top mount to side mount. It took me 5 minutes to remove the 8 screws on the right-rear extrusion and move the two "PSU holders M3nE" from top to side. https://manual.prusa3d.com/Guide/2.+Y-axis+assembly/1046?lang=en, check step 6, 7.
3 Installation
Screws needed: M4 screw (10mm) x 2 for the top frame M4 nut x 2, print first; if not possible, use a M4 screw to help screw it into place. M3 screw (10mm) x 2 for side mount on rear bottom extrusion.
4 Source files
I'm also sharing all Fusion360 source files so you can easily modify them if you wish. If you just want to print, open and slice the STL file. If you want to modify the design or see how it's designed with step-by-step design steps, open the F3D file. Happy printing or modifying!
