Prusa MK3 bin
prusaprinters

I wanted a bin for the side of my Prusa i3 MK3*s to catch the filament that may droop down while the nozzle is heating, then fall off the left side of the printer as it goes through the auto-leveling sequence. These small 1-2" strings of filament very often end up in the space between the left Z-axis motor and the bed, so I wanted my bin to fit neatly into that space.

The bin has a large radius for the bottom corners to make it easy to lift filament bits out by dragging it to the top for removal.

I also wanted this bin to lock into place, so, it is fitted well into the available space and has a small hook that fits into the aluminum extrusion and keeps it into place. It really has nowhere to go, except when you lift the small hook out of the extrusion. Note: This may not work as expected if you have different-height feet on your printer. It was designed to work, and works perfectly for the OEM rubber feet that came with my printers that are twisted into the bottom extrusions. I have 4 printers that were produced over the past 3 years by Prusa and it works the same on all of them. If you do have different height feet, use the provided STEP file, (exported from Fusion 360) to change the height of the box accordingly in your modelling program of choice.

The included model has a small, built-in support structure that easily pops off when the print is complete.

I printed mine with Overture Pro PLA Black with a slightly higher than normal temperature, which gives it a nice, matte finish.
