Prusa MK2 filament guide
thingiverse
This is a straightforward guide I created for my Prusa, and it's incredibly easy to use. Simply insert the small part into the hexagon hole on the Prusa Z rod mount, then slide the larger one onto the frame center. To complete the system, you'll also need 35cm of PTFE tube. You can obtain a spool holder by visiting this website: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1806139. Using this setup will not compromise your print quality in any way. When the PTFE tube is fully inserted into the hole, there's minimal additional drag, as long as you ensure that the filament isn't grinding against any edges. In comparison to the stock Prusa spool holder, it's even easier to pull the filament from the spool. I've included a photo of my green Benchy print as proof. I'm keeping this project in progress because I'd like feedback on the tolerances used. Everything fits perfectly and works flawlessly on my end, but I want to hear from others before considering it complete. If you decide to make this guide, please share a photo with me - it's always wonderful to see how things turn out! Edit 14.05.2017: I've updated the Frame Center STL file to Frame Center Large STL. The geometry remains almost identical; I merely added one radius at the end of the tube to ensure that the filament doesn't come into contact with it, even during extreme extrusion positions. I've also added a new Frame Center Small STL file, which is 20mm shorter than the original. This modification comes in handy when you have a paver tile within your enclosure - in this case, the shorter arm prevents the tube from touching the enclosure. Edit 28.02.2017: I've revised both the shorter and longer center frame elements to make them fit the frame more snugly. The width has been reduced to 6mm from its previous measurement of 6.4mm.
