Prusa M5 Leadscrew upgrade / M8 to M5 Adapter
thingiverse
A simple M5 nut adapter for an M8 receptacle is created to use with M5 Z leadscrews. Instead of modifying X-Ends, this adapter simplifies the process. To make this modification on a Prusa printer, follow these steps: 1) Print the adapter using 100% infill, 0.1mm layer, and 60mm/s feed, ensuring the outside dimensions are between 12.73mm-13mm. 2) Cut the M5 threaded bar to match your leadscrew size. 3) Grind hacksaw tips and clean metal shavings from the leadscrews. 4) Test fit nuts in the leadscrew. 5) Remove wobbly M8 Z leadscrews and motors. 6) Attach a 30mm PU tubing piece to the leadscrew by rotating it into the tubing. 7) Trim tubing shorter than stepper shaft. 8) Push leadscrew/tube into the stepper shaft. 9) Install printed nut adapters and motor-leadscrew assemblies. 10) Align the X-axis and recalibrate Z steps/mm. Enjoy reduced wobble and a sleek look!
