This is my Prusa i3 Rework printed Y frame. I own a sturdy steel frame, 3mm thick, and my movable steel part weighs in at 473 grams. I designed this frame with two primary goals in mind: to reduce weight and decrease forces, potentially increasing print speed; and to install a fourth bearing because I dislike asymmetry. I achieved an impressive 87 grams of weight reduction prior to installing the bearings. With this design, it's possible to add either three or four bearing supports. I used IGUS bushings for perfect smooth movement without any gaps. The centerline between the bearings is standard at 170mm, and drilling for the HB is also standard for a MK2 HB. Installation on my Prusa took just 20 minutes. Keep in mind that the part is larger than standard plates, but I split it into four pieces with generous joint surfaces. I glued mine together using cyanoacrylate and a mixture of Acetone-solved ABS as a putty. Be sure to work on a very flat surface and sand everything down to 120-grade sandpaper. Print Settings: Printer Brand: RepRap Printer: Prusa i3 Rework modded Rafts: Doesn't Matter Supports: No Resolution: 0.2 Infill: 20 Notes: Use at least 0.8 mm for the bottom/top and shell. I printed mine using blue ABS with 3mm filament. Post-Printing: Cleaning: After the first raw cleaning, prepare the pieces for gluing together in a blank assembly. Glue them together tightly. Place a flat glass on top during curing. Final cleaning: Use sandpaper to smooth everything out and prepare a mixture of Acetone and ABS (for viscosity, consider a yogurt-like consistency) to fill any small gaps. Final sanding and enjoy the result! How I Designed This: I created this design using Rhino.
